211 kg marijuana from Araku Valley seized in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, 2 held

Sleuths of the Pune Customs department on November 1 seized a large consignment of marijuana weighing over 211 kilogram. The contraband was allegedly being trafficked from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra.
According to the Customs officials, “The truck which was carrying empty crates. On thorough search of the vehicle, a hidden compartment was found in the loading area of the truck in which 211 kilogram of marijuana was found concealed, which was later on seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The value of the seized contraband is pegged around Rs 63 lakh. The truck was also seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The two persons who were transporting the marijuana were placed under arrest.”
“After their initial custody with the Pune Customs ended, the duo was remanded to judicial custody on November 4,” officials said.

A probe has been launched into the supply and distribution chain of the marijuana smuggling racket.
