Volume Graphics has released the 2023.1 version of its CT scan data inspection software, with a modernised user interface, a new machine-learning-based segmentation method, and dedicated capabilities for battery inspection.
The new release of the CT data analysis software suite, which includes VGstudio Max, VGstudio, VGmetrology, VGinline, and myVGL, features enhanced battery inspection capabilities, a new Paint & Segment tool that uses AI and machine learning to optimise and speed up fault detection, and a new Ribbon User Interface that aims to make inspection easier.
The enhanced battery inspection feature enables easy measurement and visualisation of battery properties, allowing precise checking of various anode properties such as overhang, thickness, curvature, and exit angle, as well as the ability to track shape-following lengths and adjacent electrode counts.
This helps prevent issues like thermal runaway and severe failures caused by imprecise anode overhang and improve electrical performance.
The CT-data analysis feature provides research institutions and battery manufacturers with valuable insights, including measuring voids and particle sizes during R&D, detecting delamination and contamination during cell manufacturing, and analysing electrical connections and electrolyte fill levels.
The software’s latest feature, Paint & Segment, uses AI and machine learning to optimise and speed up fault detection by identifying, classifying, localising, and segmenting challenging fault areas for analysis and template development.
Users can manually train the machine learning algorithm by painting sample regions, save the created segmentation model, and apply it to similar components and datasets.
The new functionality, in combination with Volume Graphics‘ macro framework, enables complex problems to be solved in fully-automatic analysis mode, making it useful in various fields, including life sciences, palaeontology, archeology, material science, and battery inspection.
Finally, the 2023.1 version of the software comes with a new Ribbon User Interface, which was developed to make inspection easier. Dedicated home tabs and contextual tabs should provide easy access to the main application functions, better organised into ribbon tabs.
A reporting tab includes all reporting-related functions, including the built-in report editor. Advanced customisation capabilities, a preview gallery for recently used files, and a shortcut editor increase users’ productivity, enabling them to tackle quality-assurance challenges in R&D and industrial applications.
