The Galaxy Z Fold6 remains months away from release. Nonetheless, there have been various rumours circulating about Samsung’s next-generation flagship foldable, which Roland Quandt recently identified as having the model number SM-F956 (Q6). Incidentally, the same leaker claims to have seen evidence of ‘Q6A’, a possible cheaper alternative to the Galaxy Z Fold6, which there have been rumblings about for a few months.
Now, WinFuture claims to have obtained new information about ‘Q6A’ courtesy of import and export databases. Allegedly, Samsung is indeed preparing a second ‘Fold’ model this year, with initial components already being ‘manufactured in small quantities’. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether ‘Q6A’ will arrive as a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold6 model under a new series like the Galaxy A Fold, as WinFuture speculates.
Meanwhile, Pigtou and @xleaks7 have combined to visualise a recent Samsung Electronics patent filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that they believe is the direction in which the Galaxy Z Fold series is headed. Boldly presented as ‘thinner and wider Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 leaked’, there is no suggestion that the accompanying drawings to patent number US 11,889,006,B2 relate to a device that is actively being developed.
Still, the design shown is much wider and slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold5’s designs. Thus, it appears that Samsung continues to experiment with alternate form factors for the Galaxy Z Fold series, having showcased Galaxy Z Fold5 prototypes in August 2023. As we discussed at the time, Samsung had prepared devices with 22.5:9, 22:9, 21.5:9 and 21:9 aspect ratios before settling on 23.1:9 for the Galaxy Z Fold5 (curr. $1,799.99 on Amazon).
